This workshop is an introduction to filming, designed for Producers, Assistant Producers, Researchers, Journalists, and Presenters - in fact, anyone who aspires to learn camera field craft, filming live events, and basic film shooting techniques.
This day-long workshop will inspire you with confidence, and give you a basic grounding in film camera training.
If opening your camera case fills you with dread, this camera training workshop is the one for you!
As well as providing the theory behind filming, your workshop will also include hands-on camera training. Subjects covered include:
- Getting you started … a simple introduction to your camera
- Setting up your viewfinder, tripod, and back focus
- The lens. What is it? How does it work? What is an ‘f’ stop?
- Basic lens operation … focusing and changing exposure
- Depth of field - how to use it constructively
- Light … One of the most important areas of filming
- Making use of available light … dealing with exposure in sun and shadow
- Working with mixed light … filming from outside to inside and how to do it
- Basic line crossing explanations
- Colour temperature - what is it and how to use it?
- The weather … making it work for you
- Getting to know your subject, meeting the contributors … ‘hiding the boxes away’
- Posture … hand holding your camera without harming your back!
- Shooting a basic dialogue sequence … with sound
- Holding a shot, steady panning, and filming while walking backwards
- How to shoot buildings and landscapes
- Finally … the end of the day … dealing with rushes … charging your batteries and preparing for tomorrow
